Giwa banished to Ilorin, fined N6.75m for abandoned NPFL game with Enugu Rangersd

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Giwa FC have been punished for their conduct in Sunday’s abandoned game with Enugu Rangers at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos.

The club have been sent to play their next three home matches at the Ilorin stadium and fined a total amount of N6.75 million by the League Management Company (LMC).

Giwa FC were charged for six different offences by the LMC after their home match with Enugu Rangers was abandoned on 74 minutes with the away side leading by a goal.

The offences by Giwa FC ranged from discontinuance of the match, failure “to ensure adequate security, crowd control and preventing access by unauthorised persons to restricted areas” as well as “failure to control their players and officials.”

LMC also ruled that the botched game will be completed at the National Stadium in Abuja behind closed door on April 27.

However, the league body has further told the Jos club to make sure that “within the next seven days, that in addition to the apprehension of one of the suspects, Goje, his co-culprit identified as Apiya, is also apprehended and prosecuted by the relevant security agencies for assaulting the referee (Kolawole Akinwale), failure of which a fine of N25 000 per day shall accrue, until such time the offender is apprehended and charged to court.”

Giwa FC have also been handed a suspended charge of two-point deduction which would be activated if the club are involved in any future incidents disrupting the league in the course of this season.

The LMC stated: “For acts and conduct capable of bringing the game to disrepute in breach of Rule C1, a suspended two-point deduction has been imposed on Giwa FC which will be triggered should there be any subsequent incidents of disturbances by supporters of the Club for the remainder of the season.”

An individual charge was slammed on the club's spokesman, David King. He has been fined N100 000 for his conduct during the game.

Giwa FC have till Thursday to appeal the decisions of the LMC.
