Spartak Coach Defends Moses Work Ethic

By Daily sports on December 8, 2020

Domenico Tedesco, the coach of Russian Premier League side Spartak Moscow, has defended the work ethic of Victor Moses.

The 29-year-old former Super Eagles star, who is on loan at Spartak from Chelsea, has seven appearances, one goal and one assist in the Russian Premier League in 2020-21.

Some critics of the player have claimed that he lacks a top work ethic and the energy to get back in defensive positions.

However, Tedesco has clarified that Moses’ role is centred around counter-pressing and staying high up the field to make best use of his speed and one-on-one attacking abilities.

“Moses is not lazy at all, you’re wrong. He just plays quite high, opens up a lot behind the backs of his opponents. But opponents quickly go down because no one wants to engage in single duels with him,” Tedesco is quoted on Spartak’s official website.

“In the event of losses, Victor does not always return quickly, but he should not do this, because we have three central defenders who can hedge.

“Moses’ main task is to engage in counter-pressing. Of course, his effectiveness can increase, and we are working on it.”

Spartak are joint-top of the Russian Premier League after claiming 35 points from 17 matches, following an impressive 5-1 win over Tambov this past weekend. (African Football)
