Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) finally won a home game against Heartland in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The Ibadan club defeated Heartland 2-1 on Saturday - their first league win at home against their opponents since August 1, 2012.
Muyiwa Lawal and Seun Akinyemi scored for the Oluyole Warriors while Beninoise Anthony Oussou's goal came in between those of 3SC.
The first half of the match was by far the most boring on television since the start of the NPFL this term.
Six minutes into the restart substitute Lawal broke the deadlock. Lawal, younger brother of former Nigeria under-20 star Dimeji Lawal, had spent just four minutes on the pitch after coming on for Sunday Adetunji who had a quiet afternoon, when he smashed home a free kick from 20 metres past Heartland goalkeeper Philip Acho.
As if the supporters of 3SC knew that Heartland would swing into life after that goal, they hardly celebrated it and just five minutes later, the game was level at 1-1.
Oussou scored against his countryman, Emmanuel Fabiyi, in 3SC goal from a rebound after the shot-stopper punched a Julius Ubido shot from the edge of the box into his path.
Close to the hour mark, 3SC had a chance from a free kick in the same position from which Lawal scored earlier, but the Heartland wall would make no mistake this time in blocking it.
Heartland's Achilles heel of playing deep became their undoing. In the 71st minute, 3SC scored from a well-worked move. Najeem Olukokun sold a dummy to his marker before slipping in fullback Akinyemi, who turned Zoumana Doumbia, before hitting right-footed from close range past Acho.
Heartland substitute Onyebuchi Ajunwa tried to draw his side level but 3SC goalkeeper Fabiyi narrowed down his angle to foil his attempt.
The win over Heartland by Kadiri Ikhana's men have seen them climb from 15th position to 11th and they now have 15 points. (Supersports.com)
