Egypt international Mohamed Salah can go all the way in Liverpool FC’s record books according to Steven Gerrard.
This comes after Salah equaled the Liverpool legend Gerrard’s goalscoring record in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The 28-year-old winger scored and grabbed an assist as the English champions thumped Italian outfit Atalanta 5-0 in a Group D match in Bergamo.
As a result, Salah moved level terms with Gerrard as Liverpool’s top goalscorer in European Cup and Champions League history with 21 goals.
Gerrard says the left-footed hitman will go-ahead to ‘embarrass’ his goalscoring record.
“Records are there to be broken, of course, they are,” Gerrard told the Scottishsun.
“I was very proud last night to see Mo Salah equal my scoring record for Liverpool in Europe, it was only a matter of time.
“I honestly think he’ll go on and embarrass my record — and I hope that he does. That kind of thing is always there for strikers.”
Gerrard, who is currently managing Scottish giants Rangers, compared Salah with Colomibian striker Alfredo Morelos.
“Mo Salah and Alfredo go about their business always being hungry for goals. My job for Liverpool was slightly different,” the retired central midfielder added.
“There’s nothing better than seeing someone going for a record and then smashing it to pieces.”
Morelos, who has scored 84 goals in 154 competitive matches for Rangers, is considered be one of the best strikers in Scotland.
Salah has netted 103 goals in 164 competitive games for Liverpool and he is among the best wingers in the world. (African Football)
