Battle at the top: FC Ifeanyi Ubah dares Rangers Int’l in crunchy NPFL oriental derby

By Daily Sports on April 9, 2016

It promises to be an explosive encounter today at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, as Nigerian league toppers, FC Ifeanyi Ubah battle Enugu Rangers, who currently occupy the second spot in another oriental derby.

The Nnewi-based Anambra Warriors midweek dethroned the Flying Antelopes when they defeated Plateau United 2-0 to ascend the summit with 19 points, forcing Enugu Rangers to drop to the second position after their away draw with MFM.

This is unarguably the star match of the week, even as other week 11 fixtures will hold across the nation tomorrow.

Ahead of today’s NPFL game, head coach of FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Mitko Dobrev, has declared that the game is a special one because it is an oriental derby.

The Bulgarian tactician declared that the glamour which the encounter is expected to come with also makes it a special one, adding that his team is mentally ready for the big match.

“Last year we got two wins over Rangers but this is a different year because there are new players in the team and we have been working on the balance and integration to blend together. But every match has its own approach,” he said.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah leads the NPFL log with 19 points from 10 games while Enugu Rangers are placed second with 18 points.
