The National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF) has received the approval and backing of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for the April 25, 2016 deadline for debtor clubs to pay their players and coaches.
NANPF General Secretary Comrade Austin Popo disclosed this in a statement issued Thursday in Lagos.
According to the statement, a copy of which was made available to Daily Sports, “Following a meeting of the National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, anchored by the TUC President, Comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama, in Lagos last week, the Congress has approved the request of the Players Union to intervene in the enforcement of the full compliance of the Nigeria Football Federation Players Status and Arbitration Committee decisions of 18,19 and 20th December 2009,10, 11 and 12th May 2010 and 18th of April 2015.
“Having been unable to secure the statutory backing of the leagues bodies and the Football Federation to enforce the decisions of the committee requesting the debtor clubs to pay the affected players and coaches, in spite of the directives from the NFF to the League bodies not to register the affected clubs for the 2015/2016 league season until they have liquidated their debts to the players and coaches, the league management company has gone ahead to register the affected clubs and taking part in the on-going Nigeria Professional Football League season, the Trade Union Congress has written to the affected Clubs through the Congress states councils with the mandate to enforce full compliance by the clubs to pay the players and coaches as contained in the arbitration decisions on or before 25th of April 2016 or put their clubs at the risk of the match venues of the home games of the affected clubs picketed by preventing the matches from holding thenceforth.
“The affected clubs include Nasarawa United, Rangers FC, Warri Wolves, Sunshine FC, Wilkki Tourists, Akwa United, Akwa Starlets, Kaduna United, Kano Pillars, Crown FC, Enyimba FC, El-Kanami FC, Gateway FC, Insurance FC, Jigawa FC, Unicem Rovers, Heartland FC, Niger Tornadoes, Rivers United (Dolphins FC and Sharks FC), Bayelsa United, Bayelsa Queens, and 3SC FC.
“In a related development, the Players Union wants all clubs in the NPFL and the NNL to make available to their contracted players and coaches copies of their Contract on or before the 25th of April 2016.”
