Super Eagles' Impending Friendlies

By Daily Sports on October 5, 2020

Although Nigeria is 60 years, it is still ‘wobbling and fumbling’ in all ramifications. Presently a section of the country is blocked from sitting in the country’s Security Council solely spear headed by unrepentant Muhammadu Buhari, the haughty separatist who mounted the saddle to oversee the affairs of the country but has sharply divided it the more.

This columnist as an incurable optimist and numerous others have nothing to cheer Nigeria for than being a supposedly paradise betrayed.

However, this week we will look at some trending issues in sports of late. One is the upcoming international friendlies where the Super Eagles would be filing out against two frontline North African nations, Tunisia and Algeria as warm up. It would serve as an opportunity to assess the readiness of the Super Eagles players, both the first comers and the oldies in the nation’s flagship team.

A beautiful, solid and right step in the brightest direction on paper and the replacement of injured players have also been adequately taken care of smoothly too. I must confess that the technical crew led by Rohr has done well and has been proactive too.

It is then onus on the NFF leadership to ensure it does the needful that would steady the players wholesale so as to concentrate fully on the tasks ahead with the seriousness it deserves. These friendlies are important. Though friendly, the way and manner the Nigerian players handle the games is important to their overall success.

Methinks that the squad for the matches is good enough to make depth impact and announce the team’s great prowess in the round leather sport. It is hoped also that the impending matches will help in no smaller measure to give the head of the technical crew and his assistants’ first information on the players and the next line of action in readiness for the qualifiers for the World and AFCON Cups in the near future.

One must point out here that it is also gladdens the hearts of Super Eagles fans the upbeat exploits of most of the team’s players that would be on parade in the two legged friendlies in their various clubsides in the leagues that have resumed so far.

The coast would sooner than later be clearer as the competitive national team assignments hot up. One also prays for injury free team so as to have full complement of all the players penciled down for the deal. Truth is, Rohr has already boasted or reassured that Nigeria would pick the ticket for the next world Cup.

One must also say here that Rohr has shown some good measure of leadership initiative since he took charge of the Super Eagles. We hope his desire to throw up a compact side would become a reality.

The fact remains that the Super Eagles team is yet to reach her potentials after 1994. The spirited move by the Franco-German supremo to set the tone must be commended and encouraged too. We know those that are adding value to the entire project and those paying mere lip service and playing politics with the game.

As we wait the regrouping of the players after some few AFCON qualifications before the Covid issue, we can take it from there. This newspaper will keep tab on the build up as we keep our numerous readers posted. For me, the dice is cast and we must take it headlong. Our social media handles are on and we will meet there as the clock ticks. Keep shooting hard till next week as the Struggle Continues!!
