MFM FC holds Rangers in NPFL cracker

By Adeyinka Akintunde, Lagos on April 7, 2016

Hosts Mountain of Fire and Miracles Football Club (MFM FC) of Lagos Wednesday evening battled out a one-all draw with visiting Rangers International of Enugu at the Agege Stadium. Obinna Nwobodo put Rangers ahead in 35 minutes, but Stephen Odey equalised on 68 minutes, in a match fans watched sitting at the edge of their seats.

MFM FC began the top-of-the-bill Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clash on a hot note, but suddenly lost their rhythm. Stanley Okrom, out of frustration needlessly brought down a Rangers player on 12 minutes, and got a yellow card. On 19 minutes, the homers misfired twice in their desperate search for the opener.

Obinna Nwobodo broke the deadlock off a fantastic individual effort on the left side of the field. From a run, he scored a tight goal to give Rangers the lead. MFM came out in full force for the equaliser but it never came till the end of the first half.

Five minutes into the second half, Rangers should have been 2-0 ahead but a quick counter ended with Ifeanyi Egwin’s shot being saved by Abayomi Folarin in goal for MFM. Two minutes later, Chukwuma Emmanuel’s dipping shot was tipped over by Rangers goalkeeper, Emmanuel Daniel.

MFM FC finally got the equaliser on 68 minutes when Stephen Odey volleyed a shot into the net but all attempts by them to grab a winner proved abortive.
