Nigeria, with her policy somersaults at all levels has remained stuck, while attracting to herself such unenviable names as an unready, sharply divided nation that is sitting on the keg of gunpowder waiting to happen. Regrettably, those in government are hell bent on deceiving unsuspecting Nigerians, making them believe all is well.

We are keenly watching. However, it is a major worry and unfortunate scenario to note that those in power lack the ability to manage the country effectively but rather revel in buck passing while over burdening the poor even as the dangerously snapped masses are heartlessly over taxed without human face.

Sports in all facets are never exempted. Thus far, it looks like the administrators, sports especially, the flagship – football administrators are playing safe, as if it is now injury time.  On that note therefore, football administrators in this era are afraid of this very unpredicted and propaganda ridden government in power because their stock in trade has been using trumped up allegations on individuals it wants to manipulate by adopting blackmail to instill fear in them.

However, the beautiful game is still making progress despite its being threatened in Nigeria with one foot forward and many backwards.

Let me observe here that the Minister of Sports Sunday Dare is giving the impression that he is committed towards the renovation of the National Stadium, Lagos, as the demolition of illegal occupants and structures have given way, leaving keen observers of the once upon a time imposing edifice believe it would one day rediscover itself for the best.

That said, the best way to go would be to follow up decisively, ensuring the total work takes off the ground without any iota of delay. It is only then that the teeming fans of the game would know what Dare is saying. Daily Sports would be on top of this, visiting the arena for update.

Let me also acknowledge the news of the release of the list of players that will line up against Cote D Ivoire and Tunisia in the forthcoming international friendlies coming up on FIFA day in October. It is one gladdening news as it would afford the Super Eagles handlers and players, the opportunity to know where the team is lacking and areas to fortify in readiness for the resumption of AFCON hostilities or qualifiers that would ensue sooner than later.

The arrangement of the friendlies by the NFF is commendable and therefore Daily Sports thumbs up the Amaju Pinnick-led body. Our advice is that all the personalities that matter in the team must be invited so as to know their match fitness and preparedness for the tasks ahead.

Again, one prays that the present form of Victor Osimhen would be flourishing as the Eagles plans to resume. The lad is doing well and all to the advantage of the Super Eagles squad when the chips are down. Our hopes are that he and others as well will remain upbeat.

This set of Eagles will make great impact both in the continental and global football scene if well managed. There is need to allow good sense of judgment and professionalism to take centre stage. Managers should be allowed room for invitation and selection of players to ensure strict delivery based on their current forms. Only such method by the handlers would throw up competitiveness among the players enhancing healthy rivalries. We are all aware that only such atmosphere brings out the best in the boys.

It is our tradition to focus or continue to monitor closely situations as highlighted above. The key points are crucial to the nation’s football at this level as it would not only shape but define the level of readiness of the team in totality.

Lastly for the week, the NFF promised to announce the name of the head Coach of the Super Falcons but that was not to be. However, what is on now is that the football House has shortlisted four foreign hands that would be interviewed and the most qualified selected from amongst them. This will enable the national women side to get back on track again.

From whatever angle you may be looking at it, the dice is cast and so eyes must be on the ball, by, I guess the technical committee of the NFF to get good and experienced hand that would actualise Falcons ambition to conquer competition at the world level. I must say that one believes that right choice would be made by getting a performer rather a pretender and loud mouthed dramatist that uses mouth to win games without concrete, depth, technical and tactical knowhow on the game.

Never again would Nigerians and NFF come across the likes of the last foreign coach of the team that could not make impact on the African Women football Champions.

Also last week, former Super Falcons chief handler Florence Omagbemi formally resigned her appointment with the team after being shortlisted as one of the sweat merchants to be quizzed by the NFF Technical Committee.
