Heartland FC head coach, Alphonsus Dike has lamented the Naze Millionaires’ defeat to Papilo FC 1-0 in the final of the 2016 Imo Federation Cup played on Sunday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri but assured that the club would bounce back during their NPFL Week 10 tie with Nasarawa United on Thursday.
Dike noted that it was unfortunate that his boys had to lose their status as the state’s champions but stated that they would correct the lapses noticed before their mid-week clash with the Solid Miners in Makurdi.
He said the loss was inconsequential because both clubs will still represent the state in the national Federation Cup competition later in the year while praising Papilo FC for their show of bravery and toughness throughout the contest in Owerri on Sunday.
Dike said “It was unfortunate that we had to lose the way we did. The boys tried their best but we were unlucky. We will go back home and strive to correct the errors noticed before our game with Nasarawa United on Thursday.
“We are taking the games one after the other and I want to assure you that this kind of performance won’t be repeated on Thursday when we face Nasarawa United.”
Besides the defeat suffered by Heartland to Papilo, the notable upset again recorded in the Sunday’s States’ FA Cup final was Rivers United losing to Go Round FC 4-3 on penalties while Nembe City bowed to Yenogoa City FC.
