Egypt international Mohamed Salah says he always wanted to win both the UEFA Champions League and English Premier League.

The 28-year-old player has played an instrumental role in helping the Reds clinch the two major trophies in the last two seasons.

Salah, who joined Liverpool from Italian side AS Roma in July 2017, never felt the need to choose between Premier League or Champions League glory with his current club.

“Always when people asked me what you prefer, Premier League or Champions League? I always say both – thankfully we’ve got both. That’s great,” Salah told the club’s official website.

“It [winning the league this season] feels great… It’s great, it’s unbelievable. Since I came here I said I wanted to win the Premier League with this club. What I’m seeing from the fans and the people here is unbelievable, I’m really happy and enjoying it.”

Collectively, four major trophies have been won – the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup joining the Premier League and Champions League.

While individually, Salah astonishing statistics of 94 goals and 38 assists in just 152 appearances at Liverpool.

Salah believes last year’s near-miss in the top flight, coupled with the subsequent European Cup final victory in Madrid, proved to be a catalyst for Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

“OK, first of all, it’s great to win the Champions League because it’s still the Champions League – wow, what an achievement for the team,” Salah states.

“Then, losing the Premier League with one point is also kind of disappointing, but if you see how many points we got in the season, and how we played, we were also proud of ourselves. But it’s kind of disappointing because we lost in the end. But the good thing is that we fought back and we won it.”

Did securing the club’s sixth European Cup in Madrid – 12 months on from defeat in Kyiv – change the mentality of the squad, then?

“I’m sure, yeah,” Salah notes. “It gave us more confidence.

“Imagine we lost the Champions League for the second time, the second year in a row, and lost the Premier League with one point difference… you’re going to be disappointed. But it gave us more confidence.” (African Football)
