Coach Ndubisi Egbo, Victor Osimhen’s Finest Hour

By Daily Sports on July 27, 2020

As widely reported, Napoli FC Italy has finally agreed in terms with leggy sensational and Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen on a whopping 60 million Dollars and thus baring any hitch, the lad would lace his boots for the top Italian FC. This surely will put him in great stead to further expose himself to many other first rate teams that would need his signature and it calls for extra hard work for the young player to brace up decisively and face the realities on ground if celebration for higher ground would be in sight for him in the near future.

Let me be honest with you that Victor has age on his side and has done well so far, hence great teams have been falling over themselves to have his signature which has been reportedly consented to with Napoli FC. It remains cheering news for his family, fans, friends and Nigeria that one of her own finally found his way to play for such team of high calibre.

One of those groups listed above that would jump up from where ever he was sitting when the news of Victor Osimhen’s Napoli FC deal filtered in is Super Eagles technical hand, Gernot Rohr and his assistants, for it would be a boost to the three time African Champs.

Again, there is need to recap this writer’s deep rooted tradition that dated back when the player was a nobody, like his days in the Golden Eaglets and his exploits with his team mates that gave Nigeria that year’s U-17 Junior World Cup tournament under the watchful eyes of former Africa Footballer of the Year and coach, Emmanuel Amuneke.

We have been on and I have been following him and his career and today he has shot into the big league via hard work, diligence, focus and sundry.

This newspaper has been on the forefront bringing details and updates on his spirited efforts to move to a better and also higher paid team which Napoli FC provides. We wish him great outing with the side and higher ground in the future.

Before the Victor Osimhen’s  final sealing of his contract with top side Napoli FC, the news of Coach Ndubuisi Egbo made history becoming the first Nigerian to win European league when he led KF Tirana to victory in the 2019/2020 Albania season.

“It would be recalled that KF Tirana officially became the Champion of Albania after the end of the 34th week,” a Google translation of a post on the club’s website read.

Coach Ndubuisi club will also be featuring in the UEFA Champions League for next term following their 25th league title.

The 46-year-old who had 12 appearances for the Super Eagles – between 1999 and 2002 when he was a goalkeeper for KF Tirana –  is also believed to be the first African to achieve that feat.

KF Tirana, who is celebrating their 100th anniversary this month, can also claim a domestic double on August 2, 2020 when they face Teuta Durres in the Domestic Cup final.

The club’s fans are already in celebration following the decade-long wait for the domestic title.

Coach Ndubuisi retired from football in 2011 and went into coaching, becoming the goalkeeper coach of Albanian team, Bylis before he rejoined Tirana in 2014 in the same role.

The Nigerian, was, however, promoted as the Head Coach of the Albanian side in 2019 and, has remarkably, led the club to a league triumph in his first season in charge.

Tirana are the most successful team in the European country and had reached the last 16 of European competitions four times.

Ndubuisi’s feat comes few days after a Nigerian entrepreneur; Nneka Ede became one of the few Africans to own a European club when she bought Portuguese side, Lusitano Ginásio Clube, Futebol, SAD.

Mrs Ede’s ownership of the 108-year-old team, which is in the Portuguese third division, began in June, 2020.

The development also makes her the first African woman to own a European side.

These two happenings during last week no doubt marked great water shed for Nigeria in the international scene despite obvious worst of the images at home where Ibrahim Magu, formerly acting Chairman of Buhari’s EFCC danced naked in the market square, dripping in monumental corruption as revealed by Justice Salami led panel set up by Buhari to investigate Magu whom General Buhari deliberately made untouchable, hence corruption engulfed him.

More revelations would be unveiled when the panel resumes. As if that was not dirty enough the bean was spilt by actors in NDDC that even led to fainting of the present Interim Management Committee head, Professor Pondei.  Thence on it was drama after drama that even the Senate had to walk Cairo Ojiugbo out for reasons best known to the distinguished upper house.

I digress.  For some of us, the news of Ndubuisi’s and Osimhen’s giant strides in international circles came as great and deep relief and so it was these two selfless and hardworking Nigerians that diverted attention from the bad news that is Nigeria to the brighter side which showed vividly afterwards, that after all not all Nigerians are criminals or public fund thieves. These two Nigerians gave us timely breather in that choking period last week and sent strong messages that there is still a glimmer of hope for hard working and diligent Nigerians despite the ongoing looting of public coffers both in the day light and dark of the night, Buhari’s very noisy anti corruption ‘war’ notwithstanding.

For Egbo and Osimhen, we that know are thankful. This reporter was relieved and the excellent feats were timely and also enduring. I salute both of you most sincerely.

As usual our social media handles are active. Let’s discuss further. Keep shooting hard till next week!!
