Yobo Pays Tribute To The Late ‘Big Boss’ Stephen Keshi

By Daily Sports on June 8, 2020

Former Nigerian captain Joseph Yobo has marked the four-year anniversary of the death of Stephen Keshi, paying tribute to the legend on social media.

Keshi passed away on 7 June 2016, suffering a heart attack at age 54. It was just six months after he lost his wife Kate to cancer.

Yobo was the Super Eagles’ captain as Keshi led the team to glory at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, where ‘Big Boss’ became just the second man after Mahmoud El-Gohary to win the AFCON as both a player and coach.

The two formed a strong bond, and Yobo – who is now an assistant coach for the Super Eagles – posted the following message on Instagram:

“Dear coach, it’s been four years today since you left us to rest with the Lord. You are deeply missed but your legacy lives on! Rest on the Big Boss.”

Keshi’s achievements as a player included winning the 1994 AFCON and leading the Super Eagles at their World Cup debut later the same year.

As a coach, he also helped Togo secure shock qualification for the 2006 World Cup, led Mali at the 2010 AFCON and became the first African coach to lead a team out of the group stage at the World Cup when his Super Eagles team reached the round of 16 at Brazil 2014. (African Football)
