Leon Balogun is another major doubt for Nigeria’s senior national team ahead of next weekend’s 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier with Egypt.

The Mainz 05 of Germany defender got a late call-up from coach Samson Siasia to the Super Eagles ahead of the crucial 2017 Afcon two legged qualifying game against the Pharaohs.

But Balogun picked up a muscular injury missed his Bundesliga side’s visit to Werder Bremen where they played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

“Leon #Balogun has picked up a muscular injury and didn’t travel to Bremen. Get well soon,” the club announced via its twitter handle on Saturday.

It the second time the Germany–based star will be ruled out of Super Eagles by injury after knocked out for the 2018 World Cup qualifier tie against Swaziland last November.

Balogun’s latest injury becomes the second for the Super Eagles after Turkey-based centre-back Kenneth Omeruo suffered a groin injury and has pulled out of the AFCON tie.

The return leg will take place at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria four days later.
