Manchester United are reportedly working on extending Odion Ighalo’s loan spell past its May deadline.
According to the Evening Standard, the Red Devils are ready to extend the forward’s loan spell at Old Trafford until the end of the season should the English Premier League resume amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Ighalo was set to return to Shanghai Shenhua at the end of the month, after joining United on-loan in January, but with the English Premier League currently on hold it remains uncertain when the 2019-20 season will come to an end – if at all.
United are reportedly also keen on keeping hold of him past the season and are said to be preparing a £15 million swoop for the 30-year-old forward who has impressed in his short time at the club.
Ighalo has scored four goals in eight appearances across all competitions for United, prompting rumours of a permanent move to the club he supported as a child.
The former Watford forward retired from international football following the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in which he helped the Super Eagles to a third-place finish. (Evening Standard)
