Top football administrator, Alhaji Gara Gombe Ahmed Shauibu, has hit out at Sports Minister Sunday Dare, declaring him a tribalist. He cited recent cases to buttress his point.
Below are the words of the former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) member as contained in a statement made available to Daily Sports on Thursday:
“Just few days ago you used your dubious cronies to share money to only SOUTHERN ATHLETES under the guise of COVID-19 ATHLETES SUPPORT FUND and excluded the entire Northern Athletes. Sunday Dare you never tell us how much you collected from donors. Your claim that 2 donors donated 1.1m is unacceptable. If you are looking for money to put into your pocket better go back to where you come from. Why the rush to share the money? I know with MARY ONYALI as your S.A your days as Sports Minister are numbered. Those who advise you to take the steps you have taken are you worst enemies. While we are still exposing your misdeeds you again this week placed LATE RASHIDI YEKINI mother on monthly stipend and embarrassing her publicly with a miserable bag of rice and a keg of oil what a shame. Late Rashidi Yekini will be sad in his grave. The same way you bungled the hurriedly paid so-called athletes fund you are going the same for RASHID YEKINI Mother. Which subhead will fund the stipend? Where is the money going to come from? Is it your Mary that will be going round as usual to look for the money to sustain the gimmick or how? My Minister you lack of focus is worrisome. Is it the NFA that advise you to place Rashidi mother on monthly stipend? If no one is telling you let me tell you that your tenure is confusing and directionless.
“Are you aware of one LATE SAM OKWARAJI who slumped and died in our very eyes while playing for NIGERIA? Are you aware that there is no evidence to show that his match bonus and air ticket refund has not been paid by NFA? For that match against ANGOLA? Do you know that his aged mother is somewhere in the South East?
“There are many Former Footballers whose mothers need help. If Rashidi Yekini mother is qualified so also others mothers are.
“Just like you said you accept to swallow your pride and come up with another list of athletes to cover the North so also remember to come up with another list of former or dead footballers mothers.
“You have set a precedence; you must sustain it.”
