Nantes President Waldemar Kita has confirmed that the Ligue 1 club intend to exercise the option to buy Nigerian international Moses Simon from Levante.
The 24-year-old Super Eagles star has been on loan with the Canaries since the start of the current season. His year-long contract in France includes an option to be purchased outright for a fee of €5 million.
Nantes are under no obligation to trigger the option as Simon has not met one of the main targets: 10 goals across all competitions – though obviously his ability to do has been curtailed by the cancellation of the French season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In fact, Simon has still managed a respectable return of five goals and five assists from 26 Ligue 1 matches in 2019-20, and Kita says the club will be delighted to sign him permanently.
“We will exercise the option to buy. We will keep him. He is an excellent player, with a good mentality,” Kita said in an interview with Presse Ocean.
However, there is speculation that Nantes will look to sell Simon in short order, with fellow Ligue 1 clubs Lyon and Rennes, as well as an unnamed team in China, linked with a move for the Nigerian international. (African Football)
