Sunshine Stars fire head coach, technical director

By Daily Sports on March 4, 2016

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Sunshine Stars have relieved their head coach, Samson Unuanel, of his duties in the wake of a 1-2 loss to new boys MFM FC on Wednesday.

The club’s technical director, Henry Abiodun, was also shown the exit door by the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), which manages Sunshine Stars.

A Supersport report quoted a source as revealing that the sack of Abiodun and Unuanel is based on their failure to work together.

The club management has blamed the “internal wrangling” between the two coaches for their unimpressive start to the Nigerian top-flight this season.

Unuanel was only appointed in December to replace Kennedy Boboye who left the club after last season.

Kayode Olujoungbe, head coach of Sunshine Queens, has been handed the caretaker role until a substantive gaffer is named.

“The ODSFA management has relieved head coach Samson Unuanel and technical director Henry Abiodun of their duties due to internal wrangling between the two which has affected the players’ and team’s performance and has not justified the huge investment of the (Ondo) state government and expectations of the people of the state,” a club spokesman, Wahab Bankole, told supersport.com on Thursday following the development.

Sunshine Stars are one of four clubs yet to win a game this term though the Akure side have played one match less than the others.
