Nigeria Players Union warns against fake insurance •Vows to expose clubs and people behind scam

The Nigeria players Union, National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF) has warned clubs, especially those in the Nationwide League, against the submission of fake Insurance Certificate on behalf of their players to the Nationwide League Organisation (NLO). 

The warning was issued yesterday via a statement issued in Lagos by NANPF General Secretary, Comrade Austin Popo.

He said: “Investigation conducted by the Union indicates the unwholesome practice of some clubs officials who are in the habit of presenting fake Insurance Certificate of non-existing insurance company to cover their players’ participating in the Nationwide League, thereby endangering the careers and lives of the players.

“The Union finding also revealed the fact that the Nationwide League already has an existing insurance policy built into its registration packages aimed at safeguarding the career and lives of the players and therefore request all the clubs to key into these formalised arrangements instead of cutting corners at the expense of the career and lives of the players. The Players Union has tabled the issue before the Nigeria Football Federation and the Trade Union Congress for necessary action. The Union will soon unveil the names and clubs involved in these unwholesome activities.”
