Rangers Subdue Kano Pillars, Enyimba Beat Kwara Utd

By Daily Sports on February 20, 2020

Enugu Rangers yesterday returned to winning ways in the Nigeria Professional Football League as they pipped Kano Pillars 1-0 in the week 11 rescheduled match played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International stadium in Enugu. In the other rescheduled NPFL week 13 fixture, Enyimba FC maintained their impressive run with 2-0 a victory over visiting Kwara United.

In Enugu, the early stages of the game saw both team creating chances to score with Pillars David Ebuka capitalising on a defensive error but his shot went wide while at the other end, Israel Abia who was clear on goal had his effort saved by Pillars keeper Joshua Enaholo.

Second half began in the same way as the first half with both sides unable to utilize the goal scoring chances that came their ways.

In the 73rd minute, Pillars’ David Ebuka missed the chance to score from close range as his effort was stopped by Opubo. The follow up was equally missed by Rabiu Ali to the bewilderment of the away fans.

Pillars were made to pay for their wastefulness in front of goal when Chinonso Eziekwe scored the only goal of the game in the 75th minute.

In Aba, Enyimba who defeated Abia Warriors in a contentious ‘Oriental derby’ on Monday proved their mettle once again as they defeated visiting Kwara United 2-0 in a rescheduled Match Day 13 at the Enyimba Stadium.

Dependable forward, Stanley Dimgba opened the scoring as early as the 5th minute of the game while Victor Mbaoma who has now scored nine goals in the league increased the tally to two in the 85th minute.

Enyimba have now moved to 5th position on the league with 30 points from 17 games while Kwara remain unmoved in 15th position with 24 points from 20 games. (Daily Trust)
