Chairman of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Referee Appointment Committee, Sharif Rabi’u Inuwa (Ahlan), has re-echoed his stance on wielding the big stick on referees found performing below standard in all competitive football matches across the nation.

The NFF executive board member and Kano State FA Chairman spoke in Kano over the weekend. He vowed that there would be no scared cows in his quest to bring the best out of Nigerian referees to compete with their fellow counterparts across the globe in accordance with international best practices.

His words: “I have said this on several occasions that the standard we have set for Nigerian referee is uncompromised.

“No referee found wanting will go scot-free.

“We will definitely take decisive action against any referee who performs below the standard we have set for them.

“I don’t care whether a referee is from Bayelsa, Kano, Ondo or Taraba; if you fail to live up to billings, the committee under my watch will take necessary punitive action against you.”

Inuwa further noted that 52 referees have been suspended for performing below standard in different matches while assuring his committee will be steadfast in discharging their duties.

“I’m calling on all referees to be resilient.

“We have concluded plans to start referring those that erred to the NFF Disciplinary and Ethics Committee.

“If we’re not satisfied with the outcome, we will surely take it to Caf and Fifa.

“Our aim is to restore the lost dignity of Nigerian Referees in the world and to be considered good enough for Caf and Fifa organised tournaments,” he said.

Sharif Inuwa also called on all relevant stakeholders to make the set goal achievable.
