Acting Technical Adviser of Nasarawa United Football Club of Lafia, Abubakar Arikya, has said that his team will get back to winning ways despite their NPFL week six loss to visiting Delta Force FC of Asaba in Lafia.
Nasarawa United were playing their first home match under closed doors since the imposition of sanctions on the club by the League Management Company (LMC) for breaching certain Framework and Rules in their game against Plateau United two weeks earlier.
The Lafia-based team had come into the Delta Force game with high expectations following the vital away point picked against Akwa United in Uyo the previous week.
Despite playing well, Nasarawa United were lacking in goals as plethora of chances that came their way were either caught by the visitors’ goalkeeper, Sochima Ndukwa, or squandered.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 34th minute through Enudi Solomon’s free-kick few metres away from the goalkeeper’s area.
Nasarawa United’s persistent pressure to score could not yield any goal as the referee blew the final whistle to put score at 0-1 in favour of Delta Force.
Nasarawa United will now focus on their away game against Sunshine Stars of Akure today, Sunday, December 8, 2019, at the Akure Township Stadium, Ondo State, before welcoming Kano Pillars during the midweek. Coach Abubakar Arikya, who is leading the team for the second game since the departure of Coach Bala Nikyu, said Nasarawa United will come back to winning ways in no distant time.
His words: “Nothing went wrong in our game to Delta Force. That is football; sometimes you win, and some other times you lose or draw.
“We accept the defeat, but we will go back and correct the mistakes.
“We lost so many of our chances; we didn’t convert any of them. If we had utilised our chances, especially in the first-half, I don’t think the game would end the way it ended he explained.”
On the match against Sunshine Stars in Akure, Arikya said: “As against Sunshine Stars, anything can happen there. We can go and win there or even pull a draw.”
He pleaded with stakeholders and supporters of the club to keep faith as results would soon begin to come.
“Somehow, we are under pressure because the result is not good for the team. But, they (stakeholders and supporters) should be patient with the team,” he added.
