One of the country’s longest serving captains, Warri Wolves’ Goodluck Onamado, has commended the management team of the Seasiders – as they are fondly called – for securing a premier league ticket for the 2019/2020 season as well as the recruitment of seasoned and experienced players for the new season.
Goodluck has been with the club since 2005, but played for FC Ifeanyi Ubah and current league champions Enyimba International at various times before returning to join the crop of experienced players being hired for the season by the Warri-based team.
Speaking about his expectations for the 2019/2020 season which started yesterday with Akwa United forcing the Wolves to a 1-1 draw, the versatile defender said with the current recruitment patterns employed by the club, he is certain fans and supporters of the club will not be disappointed this season, as he believes that the top three position is feasible for the club at the end of the league season.
His words: “I’m so happy to see that premier league games has now returned to Warri, before now, most football fans after Wolves got relegated years back will sit at home glued to their television set, but now, they will be excited to come watch live matches at the stadium. I know that with the experienced players in our team, and with the unflinching support from our fans this season will be interesting and fullfilling.
“I believe Wolves will start on a winning note and work hard to maintain their form to be among the top three best teams by the end of the season.
“We want the management to create an enabling environment and the needed support and our fans to always come out en mass at our games to cheer the team to victory.
“The present management team led by Etu Moses, has recruited players who had previously played for wolves and some whom they believe with their wealth of experience in the NPFL, will help the club actualise their ambitions this season.
“Such players include Efe Yarhere, Michael Egeta, Abu Azeez, Julius Ubido and a host of others.”
Reacting to comments by a cross section of the club fans on his playing time and age, Goodluck said he has a lot to offer regardless of age, which he said is a mere number.
“I will play until I’m ready to retire, which is not soon, and when I do retire, plans are already on the way for me to join Wolves coaching crew,” he said.
