Ahead of the upcoming NPFL 2019/2020 season, the management of Nigerian Nationwide League (NNL) Champions, Akwa Starlets FC, now known as Dakkada FC, has dedicated the team to God.
The players, coaches, ad hoc and management staffers of the newly promoted Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) side worshipped in a special Thanksgiving Service yesterday, Sunday, October 27, 2019, at The Apostolic Church, Afaha Oku District, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
In his message, the District Pastor, Pastor Okon Harrison, commended the team for making God their cardinal point and encouraged them to aim for greater exploits as God was yet to be done with blessing them.
While offering special prayers to the team, the clergyman also admonished them never to indulge in fetish and diabolical ventures but to stand firmly with God always.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Dakkada FC, Coach Aniedi Dickson, said he and his charges decided to return to God as direct beneficiaries of God’s infinite blessings and faithfulness.
Showcasing the NNL Super 4 trophy to the church, Mr. Dickson recalled how his team called on God before the start of last season’s NNL at ‘this same church’ and recounted how God did not only answer their prayers by granting them promotion to the NPFL but also empowered them to be crowned NNL Champions 2018/2019.
Coach Dickson thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for his decision to sponsor the team in the NPFL rather than succumbing to the pressure of selling off the elite division slot. He also commended the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, ‘My Boss, Sir Monday Uko’, for his unending moral and material support.
Some of those who spoke and made cash and material donations to the Church and Club include the Member for Onna State Constituency at Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Otuekong Nse Essien; Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Local Government Service Commission, Honourable Monday Eyo; State Organizing Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Honourable Saturday Akpan; and the Secretary of Esit Eket Local Government Council, Comrade Felix Udoh; as well as the General Manager (Special Duties), Akwa Ibom State Water Company Limited, Barrister Aniefiok Ukpe.
Highlights of the event were prayers and thanksgiving as well as a sumptuous reception.
Dakkada FC will begin their NPFL campaign away to Delta Force FC next Sunday before returning home to face Kano Pillars.
