Uyo, the capital city of oil rich Akwa Ibom State, was lighted up as the second round of the Globacom-sponsored 2016 Super Four kicked off at the imposing Godswill Akpabio International Stadium a.k.a The Nest of Champions.
Home side Akwa United began Match Day 4 with a win over Solid Miners Nasarawa United, who before now were on top of the log with 5 points. The Kabiru Dogo-tutored side lost to a last minute strike by Akwa United’s super sub Afeez Awakan.
In the second game of the Match Day 4, Kamal Sikuru of Enyimba got the only goal of the game against Warri Wolves to give the People’s Elephants all 3 points and catapult them to the joint leaders on the table, as goals’ difference keep home side Akwa United on top.
The first round of the Super Four held in Kaduna between the 20th and 24th of January, Nasarawa United finished top of the log in the first round, after amassing five points from three games, while Enyimba occupied the second spot after scrambling a 2-0 win against Warri Wolves on the final day. Akwa united and Warri Wolves finished 3rd and 4th respectively.
The tournament continues today, February 3, with Enyimba and Nasarawa United slugging it out by 5pm, while Akwa United will hope to upturn the defeat they suffered in the hands of Warri Wolves in the first round, as both sides clash by 7pm.
The final match day see Warri Wolves battle Nasarawa United by 5pm, while the late night show will provide the platform for the champions to be crowned as Akwa United square up against Enyimba FC.
