General Manager of Kwara United FC, Mallam Bashir Badawiy, has said that the club’s victory at the recently concluded Governor Ifeanyi Okowa Pre-Season Tournament in Asaba, Delta State, is just the beginning of the journey for the Ilorin-based club.
Speaking at the end of the tournament, Badawiy congratulated the entire people of Kwara State, especially Governor Ahmed Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, who he said has been of great support to the club.
His words: “You see, the secret behind the club’s success in the tournament is that we have an Executive Governor who happens to be a football-loving governor.
“He is ready to do anything for us as far as we can deliver. I dedicated the victory to the Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulrazaq. This is a one step forward by the grace of God. Victory and promotion to the Premiership will be ours insha Allah.
“We also have a gigantic chairman in the person of Honourable Kunbi, who is a workaholic chairman and who is here fighting tooth-and-nail to take care of the packages for the footballers.”
The team, which won the 10 days tournament through penalties over Lobi Stars (8-7), later headed for Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, for another pre-season tournament taking place on September the 24 to 30, 2019.
Looking ahead to the forthcoming Nationwide League (NNL), the Kwara United GM said that though “we are in a tough group in the NNL league” there is nothing to fear because “Football is football. They have two legs, our players have two legs.”
Going back in time, he said: “I must take you back when I was in Rivers United; people said our group was a group of death and we ended up playing in the semi-final after eliminating the likes of Akwa United, Lobi Stars and the rest.
“So we are not scared of any group. We’ll play football, they’ll play football and at the end of the day, football will win.”
Badawiy further called for the cooperation of the people of Kwara State, saying that by the grace of God, the team would to make them proud.
