Members of Authentic Nigeria Football Supporters Club on Tuesday evening celebrated with the Coach Imama Amapakabo-led Under-23 Olympic Eagles for their emphatic victory over the visiting Sudanese team at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, thereby picking the qualification ticket for the U23 AFCON championship in Egypt in November 2019.
President of the club, Abayomi Ogunjimi, in his congratulatory message hailed the Olympics Eagles for believing in themselves and spelling SUDAN with goals.
He urged the team not to rest on their oars but to view their qualification as the beginning of a successful defence of the title. “The task ahead of you is tasking however with all seriousness attached to it, the task is achievable,” Ogunjimi stated.
“Nigerians are happy with the victory however they will be happier with the AFCON championship title in our silverware chest,” he added.
Daily Sports, which covered the match, reports that the Olympic Eagles defeated Sudan by five goals to nil. They opened fire right from the start of the game.
The first goal was scored by Taiwo Awoniyi who headed into the net in the 9th minute of play from Lazarus John’s pullout after Ndifreke Effiong shot and the ball was deflected by the Sudanese goalkeeper.
The Nigerians kept piling the pressure, with Nwakali Kelechi controlling the midfield and Ndifreke Effiong getting the second goal in the 27th minute of the game.
Ndifreke Effiong got the third goal in the 44th minute and the first half ended on that score.
Super sub Sunday Feleye was introduced in the 60th minute of play and scored the fourth goal six minutes later while the fifth goal was scored by last season NPFL top scorer Ibrahim Sunusi in the 68th minute.
