Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Community Sports and Educational Development (CSED) Initiative, a non-governmental organisation that uses sports to educate and develop the youths at the grassroots, Cornelius Ehimiaghe, has charged youths in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Uhogua, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, to always strive to be the best they could be in whatever they do.
He gave the charge via a statement read on his behalf by Edema Fuludu, the national coordinator of the organisation, on the occasion of three day sports programme the organisation held at the camp.
Talking to newsmen about the idea behind the programme, Fuludu, who is a former national soccer star, said: “The idea of the Community Sports and Educational Development (CSED) Initiative is to get to the grassroots particularly in the Niger Delta and teach our kids how to use sports as a tool to better their lives.”
Ex-Bendel Insurance coach, Alabi Aissien, who was one of the resource persons at the programme, said: “The exercise will make the youths to be engaged in meaningful things and also make them healthy.”
Mrs. Clara Ofulu, a social worker and women development officer, who was part of the team stated: “The essence of my participation is to make the caregivers in this IDPs camp to be alive to their responsibilities and have better knowledge of how to cater for their wards.”
Loads of top quality sports equipment, books, memorabilia were donated to the over 3,000 youths in the camp after they have been tutored on skills needed to excel in sporting activities like table tennis, cricket, football, chess, athletics, scrabble, basketball, handball, badminton and netball under the supervision of top rated coaches and trainers.
