Nigeria Battle Burkina Faso for All African Games Gold

By Daily Sports on August 30, 2019

Both teams wrapped up their tickets after penalties with Burkina Faso beating Senegal 5-4 whilst Nigeria accounted for Mali thanks to an identical result during Tuesday’s semi-final matches both at the AS FAR Sports Centre in Rabat.

In the first semis match, Burkina Faso avenged their loss to Senegal in the 2015 final which the latter won by a lone goal. Les Etalons went up on the hour mark through Djibril Ouattara from the spot but their joy was cut short 19 minutes later, when Youssouph Badji drew level for the defending champions, forcing the game into extra time which failed to produce a winner.

Badji metamorphosed from hero to villain after his penalty miss denying Senegal a place at a successive final to defend their title won four years ago in Brazzaville, Congo. Abdoulaye Niakhate, Mamadou Lamine Camara, Ibrahima Drame and Bakary Goudiaby converted for Senegal.

Ouattara was the hero for Les Etalons scoring the last kick after Ismahila Ouedraogo, Ali Bathie, Abdoul Razack Yoda and Issiaka Ouedraogo had blasted past Senegal goalie Francois Djiba. (CAF)
