Edo State League Final Suffers Indefinite Postponement; Professional Players Set Benin on fire

By Daily Sports on August 8, 2019

BJ Foundation and Ekpoma United are waiting to know when they will lock horns in the final of the 2019 Edo State League after the earlier scheduled date of Saturday, August 3, became unfeasible.

The state league final, I understand, has been shifted indefinitely due to the absence of the state FA Chairman Henry Osaro Asemota.

My source tells me that the FA Chairman has directed that the final game be played while he is around. It is also understood that he is putting plans together to ensure a befitting state league final.

The final match is expected to hold at the S&T Barracks pitch in Isihor, Benin City.

Meanwhile, some professional players who are about to return to their clubs from their extended break are preparing themselves for league action by playing a match against grassroots club Osabu FC at the Arinze Primary School field in central Benin City.

The selected professional side featured the likes of Osas Okoro (former home-based Super Eagles player) who plays in the Zambian league, Solomon Okpako (former home-based Super Eagles captain and Enugu Rangers midfielder), Amoroso (who plays in Turkey) as well as Joseph Osadiaye of Enyimba.

The match, which held on Wednesday, August 7, ended 2-1 in favour of the professionals with Joseph Osadiaye impressing massively with a first half brace.

Osabu FC pulled one back in the second half and despite their best efforts, they couldn’t draw level.

The game was a very entertaining one which offered fans in Benin City the opportunity of seeing close up some spectacular performances by pro players.
