Moved by the overwhelming victory of the Kano Pillars Football Club in FA Cup, over Niger Tornadoes, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has commended the club for breaking the decades-long jinx.
“We are specifically happy because we emerged victorious and won the trophy that has eluded our state for the past 66 years. Kano won the Cup way back 1953. And here we are emerging winners during our administration. This calls for all manner of gratitude and appreciation,” he stated in a press release issued on Monday and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar.
Kano Pillars winning the cup, being the most prestigious in the country, as explained by the governor, did not come as a much surprise, “...looking at the unrelenting stamina of the Pillars club, coupled with the good composition of our talented players. And above all, Allah made it very possible for us,” governor explains further.
“This victory is for all us in Kano State, irrespective of where you belong to. This Trophy brings with it pride, commitment and dedication with a common objective in sports industry,” he said.
After showering praises and displaying his immense gratitude to the players, couches, management and supporters of the club, he discloses that, “I am assuring you that my administration is determined to take our pride our Pillars to greater heights.”
Ganduje affirms: “We are very happy that we won this trophy that the state could not win for the past many decades. This caused for celebration.”
Assured that he would continue to support the club and all other sporting activities in the state, adding: “Sports development is part of our cardinal points especially in our next level resolution.
“It is absolutely our duty and responsibility to create enabling environment for our youth to display their talents for the overall development of our state.”
According to him, when Pillars payers are back they would have a befitting state grand reception, after which “they will also be hosted in a special Award Dinner that the state will organise for them at a later date.
“We are proud to have such highly skilled and talented players, together with their management. We are proud to have them all. Our fans are equally appreciated for the morale booster.”
