Sensational Ubong Ekpai has declared that he has dumped Kano Pillars FC to stage a comeback to Akwa United FC, which he left a season ago.
Ekpai said he is greatly pulled by the urge to return home like other players that went out the state for greener pastures to propel the CAF Confederation debutants to compete decisively in the continent for the glory of the state and the country.
“It will be great to reunite with former team mates in search for this glory and our resolve to put the state’s name vividly among football powers in the land. I have finished proceedings and I am ready to lace my boots for Akwa United FC. I have no other career than to play the game and anywhere the condition is highest remains where I pitch my tent. It will be great to play on the lush green pitch of Ibom International Stadium,” he said.
Daily Sports recalls that the forward needed the prompt intervention of the League Management Company (LMC) last season to complete his transfer to Kano Pillars from Akwa United.
Ekpai revealed: “Let me make it abundantly clear that I have signed for Akwa United, it’s a two-year deal. It is no longer speculations. I am happy here. Things have changed. One must posit that the State Government is not leaving anything to chance to build a stronger Akwa United team. Thing are upbeat, to say the very least. In a nutshell, it’s home, sweet home. My next stop is to settle down and concrete on why I am here. The team is building; everybody looks up to the new season and our continental assignment.”
Ekpai further shed light on why he made up his mind to retrace his steps to team up with the 2015 Federation Cup champions, stating that he came back to the club after a change of the management.
His words: “I do not expect any trouble at present. Those in charge including the State Commissioner of Sports, Chief Monday Uko, knew their onions as they are in one accord pursuing one goal. Such serene atmosphere will hopefully encourage the players to deliver.”
Daily Sports reports that Akwa United FC management resolved to bring back all the stars of the team that left for one reason or the other in their spirit of the present State Government to engage all the youths and the young ones meaningfully as the team gears toward successful season and fulltime at the continental level.
