Nigeria, South Africa AFCON Q-Final: Another Dicey Test for Eagles — Okumagba

By Victor Enyinnaya on July 10, 2019

National President of Super Eagles Supporter Club (SESC), Prince Vincent Okumagba, has charged the Super Eagles to brace up decisively and confront the threat of Bafana Bafana of South Africa with the full wrath of their might as the South Africans have shown that they are no pretender to the ultimate prize of Africa’s premier biannual football summit, AFCON.

In an exclusive phone chat with Daily Sports from the land of Pharaohs the oil mogul insisted that the good thing about this set of Super Eagles is their collective resolve to play for the country and make themselves the heroes in them.

“I have seen good measure of focus, determination, diligence and above all team work capped with resilience which brought them thus far during the epic game in round of 16 against former defending champions, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroun which actually put them to test since the tournament began some few weeks back. This is yet another dicey and slippery encounter only the confident, tight strategist quick thinking bench, imaginative decision and thinking players will swing victory home for their squad,” Okumagba said.

The SESC boss implored the lads to ensure that they will play for each as the round leather sport is all about ensuring that selfishness takes the back bench feat that saw them out done the revamping Cameroonians.

According to him, the match plan worked perfectly in the second stanza of the game hence the near over confidence former defending champions had their tales tucked which ensured their exit in the upset ridden competition.

Okumagba further urged the Eagles to do their homework proper to ensure South Africa would be turned back. He also reminded the three-time kingpins that this same Bafana Bafana was their nemesis during the qualifiers, beating them in Uyo and forcing draw in J’Bourg.  Therefore, “vigilance, control, tight marking, total concentration must be uppermost in their minds and there should be no dull moments and no loss of concentration of any kind as only such would be the best and winning antidote for the make or break encounter,” he said.

He assured that his men are already on ground to provide all round support for the optimum performance of the lads.

“I believe that the technical crew has thoroughly watched the video of the last game and dot the I’s and crossed the T’s. Today’s game won’t child’s play and therefore all departments must be upbeat on their side. The good thing about today’s encounter is that both sides knew themselves inside out and if I said it will be the survival of the fittest it won’t be far from the truth. All hands must be on deck on the part of the players and the bench. The technical hand must ensure that only the fit fighting boys would be on parade and foremost the problematic goalkeeping area would be forfeited not as we saw an all through panicking Daniel Akpeyi once the Cameroonians are with the ball. He did not help the team that fateful day. He played in South Africa and the Bafana Bafana will study his tapes to spot the areas he is weak in case he will be in goal. I also believe that the Gernot Rohr has perfected the penalty ability of the team in case the match comes to be decided on penalties,” Okumagba concluded.
