Delta State Celebrates 2nd Place Finish at 3rd Governor Dickson National Wrestling Classic, Thanks Governor Okowa

Delta State wrestling team is in high spirits after placing second at the recently concluded 3rd Governor Dickson National Wrestling Classics held in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State. The team won 7 Gold, 7 Silver and 1 Bronze.

Speaking with Daily Sports in Yenagoa, Chairman of the team, Ekpebide Preye, who watched all the team’s games, said he was so impressed about the team’s performance during the week long championship.

“I want to use this medium to thank our sports-loving Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, for the support to the team and we Team Delta Wrestling thank him very much and promise to win the overall in the next edition. We are also grateful to our Sports Commission Chairman, Chief Tony Okowa, for being there for us Team Delta Wrestling. We will continue to do our best to make the state the number one in the country in wrestling,” Preye said.

The chairman recalled that “26 states and 13 clubs participated and we came second behind host state Bayelsa.”

“We want the government to still do more for us. We thank God that some of our athletes are invited to camp for the All-Africa Games,” Preye added.
