Exciting Nigerian winger Deba David is eyeing a more prosperous club career, a call up to the Nigerian Olympic football team and subsequent invitations into the senior national team (Super Eagles) assignments after a successful loan spell in the second division of the Portuguese league last season.
David, who is officially contracted to top Portuguese club Feirense FC, was loaned to RD Guerda in the Portuguese 2nd division where he had a very impressive season scoring 9 goals in the league.
Deba, 22 is a very clever player whose dribbling tricks, fast feet and intelligent cut-ins from both flanks were a delight to watch in the course of the last season.
The former Dynamite Force (of Nigeria national division 1 league) player is also very comfortable as a creative midfielder, where he made his name in the Nigerian local league before moving to Europe some years ago.
David’s progress has been followed by many European clubs, and as he makes his return to Feirense, there are many clients who are already making serious inquiries for his services.
A click of his highlights on YouTube will reveal why he’s such a hot prospect. He leaves defenders for dead, bamboozling them with deceptive moves that would make a knowledgeable watcher of the game know that he can reproduce those quality displays at the highest levels of football.
For now though, David is concentrating on making the best choices for his career.
“I will allow my agents to look into my future. I just want to concentrate and keep giving my best. I’m happy about my game last season with RD Guerda and it’s time to move higher. I’m excited and calm about my future in the game,” David said from Portugal.
As Nigeria prepares for Olympics qualifiers and also a life without some of the ageing national team players after this month’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Egypt there is a big need to cast an intelligent eye into players that can carry the national teams forward in the near future. Looking at the direction of someone like David who has a very bright future in the round leather game would represent an intelligent thing to do.
With so many Nigerian professional and home-based players laying claims, through agents and friends, to being top quality, even when the reality does not conform so, it’s important to have a strong technical department of the Nigeria FA which would have a predefined set of characteristics required of players who are to be invited for national assignments as well as a predetermined set of tactical styles for the national team.
If high technical ability and discipline are the major prerequisites going forward, then David is one player that surely has values to add for country.
