The current crop of BJ Foundation FC players ended the year as they started it – in grand style. At the club’s close of season ceremonial match at the Arinze Primary School playground in Benin City, the youngsters were in devastating mood on Thursday, hammering ex-BJ players 3-0.
The ex-BJ boys had on parade Nigerian international Isaac Success of Granada FC, Spain, as well as national Under-23 defender Erhu Obanor, among other pros.
The present players of the club were not at all intimidated by the high profile of their opponents in a game that carried high prestige value.
The pros, who were called The Reds in accordance with their red jerseys, found themselves under ceaseless pressure from the onset, but somehow managed to hang on for the duration of the first half.
Success, who squeezed time from a very short Christmas break afforded by his La Liga club, looked like he was suffering from jet lag. He found it difficult to shrug off tackles and lost the ball carelessly countless times.
Ino opened scoring with a fierce shot at the edge of the box on the restart, getting the second with a simple tap-in from a flank cross.
Edo Challenge Cup highest foal scorer Francis Ikpomwonsa completed the rout with from the penalty spot after a professional handled a goal-bound shot.
At the end of the game, players, fans and officials of BJ headed for Isaac Success’ home for a massive Christmas party hosted by him.
