Community Sports and Educational Development (CSED), an NGO, through the Edo State Cricket Association, on Saturday made a hefty donation of cricket sports kits to Edo Boys High School, Benin.
The equipment, half of a 450kg consignment sourced from the UK through CSED’s partners Lord’s Taverners (a UK based Charity), got the students so excited.
The National Coordinator and Trustee of CSED, Ex-Super Eagles star Edema Fuludu, who also represented the Founder, Mr. Cornelius Ehimiaghe, read the latter’s message appealing to the Nigeria Cricket Federation to do more in creating awareness to develop the game in Nigeria. He eulogised the efforts of Mr. Uyi Akpata, the Cricket Association Chairman of Edo State, for the immense efforts on his part concerning funding in his pursuit of excellence in cricket development in the state. CSED expressed willingness to partner the association and Edo State Government in the development and promotion of cricket in the state.
Responding on behalf of the Cricket Association of Edo State, the Vice Chairman, Barr. Abraham Oviawe, expressed delight in the quantity of kits donated by CSED and said that this would go a long way in enhancing the growth of the game in the state. He thanked the founder of CSED and her representative, noting that Edo is the only state in the country that has a women cricket league and that their U-15 who just came back from Kenya on a training and confidence-building tour are the current national champions.
CSED, whose objective is to use sports to curb the drug abuse and cultism in schools across the Niger Delta, will be doing a repeat performance on May 2 and 3 in Warri, Deklta State, mentoring youth soccer coaches in primary schools as it had previously done in Edo State in February 2017 and Udu Local Government Area of Delta State in April 2018
