Lagos SUBEB, organisers ready for Kiddies Olympics

Preparation for the smooth organisation of the maiden Kiddies Olympics in Lagos from 26 - 30 October, 2015 is in top gear.

The Kiddies Olympics is put together by Klozit Limited in conjunction with Isaac Daniels with active collaboration with Sports Officers of  State Universal Education Board, SUBEB, in Lagos State. The finals will feature sports such as Football, Track and Fields, Scrabble, Table Tennis and Handball with no fewer than 2,300 pupils in public schools in Lagos State and 300 officials.

According to the schedule of events released by the Project Management Committee (PMT) of the competition, football events, which will hold for five days, will flag off the tournament at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere on Monday, 26 October. Table Tennis, which is scheduled for the Rowe Park Sports Complex, will hold between Tuesday and Wednesday. Rowe Park will also play host to Taekwondo on Wednesday, while Handball, which hold between Wednesday and Thursday will be played at the same venue.

Sports Bar of the Teslim Balogun Stadium will host Scrabble on Thursday. Track and Field events will hold from Tuesday to Thursday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

The PMT headed by Mr. Nurudeen Aluko said that a total of 322 medals will be won during the weeklong event which has received the blessings of Lagos State Sports Commission, Lagos State Football Association and other relevant sports bodies of the events involved. He is still hopeful that corporate Nigeria will respond to their proposals and pleads with them to support the event in other to celebrate the children and the nation at large.

“We are planning glamorous opening and closing ceremonies where dignitaries in Nigerian sports and the society at large will be invited,” Aluko said.

National President of SUBEB Sport Directors, Prince Olu Akapo disclosed that the organisers planned to adopt Exponent 21 for the games. According to Akapo, who is also the Sports Director, Lagos SUBEB,

“Exponent 21 will enable us focus strictly on the age, weight and height of each pupil taking part in the tournament.”
