Following the tragic disappearance of Emiliano Sala, Cardiff City have decided to freeze the payments of his transfer from Nantes, having signed the player for 17 million euros two days before the incident. The first payment was set at six million euros, but the Premier League side are studying a number of legal measures before sending the money, even considering claiming negligence for the flight that they had no part in arranging. Reports from The Telegraph explain that the Welsh side could face a counter-claim from Nantes for not paying the agreed sum, however, they are not willing to discuss finances at this emotional time. “At the moment we are not going to talk about money in what is a dramatic situation,” Waldemar Kita, the club president, said. “Now, we’re not going to claim anything, we’ll see.” The issue is made all the more complicated by the involvement of a third party, with Girondins de Bordeaux owning half of the player’s transfer rights.
