Forgive me if after reading this week’s write-up you find me sound slightly different from my usual self. The most significant event that attracted yours truly in sports last week was the meeting the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, held with NFF President, Amaju Pinnick and Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, in Government House, Benin City.

To be honest with you, when I read it in this medium (www.dailysportsng.com) I thumbed up the initiator of the historic meeting between the two gladiators. The rest of you read it where a truce was reached and before you could say Usain Bolt, Solomon Dalung had withdrawn the suit he instituted in a certain Magistrate Court in Abuja against Amaju Pinnick for corruption.

This reporter’s curiosity rose from the quick speed with which this was followed. I must confess that a peaceful atmosphere within football administration in the country would grow confidence in investors and also provide adequate cover for our players who ensure our country is well represented in international football summits.

Previously, this column hammered vividly that the presence of Solomon Dalung has set sports in this country many steps backwards. I did say also that he is one person that eats with both hands and talks from both sides of his mouth and came to the conclusion that any individual who talks on the drop of hat remains a danger to his immediate and larger environment.

Dalung belongs to that category and he has been a big minus for sports generally. Like his predecessors, his sole focus on football has turned out badly for him. When he was eating and dining with NFF executive committee members, he never called them corrupt and they hardly leave without shaking hands with him at the end of the day.

Dalung sold out. He reduced himself to nothing before and up to when he started misbehaving, eating in two places at the same time.  Amaju led committee ignored him and at the end of the day rubbished him in the mud. Like a wounded Lion, after the total humiliation by the executive committee before and during the election of NFF, he came back via cheap blackmail against the NFF leadership. I watched him in a certain television channel where he was breathing fire and brimstone against NFF and its executive committee members. He in collaboration with some NFF staff, compiled wide allegations of financial impropriety against Amaju and some of his top members and followed with its hired social media hustlers, bandying all sorts of allegations of how Amaju had been arrested when in real terms, Amaju Pinnick was in Senegal for CAF awards and other functions of the apex football body in Africa.

It continued and I became ashamed of most of them that sadly parade themselves today as sports journalists simply because the leadership of Lagos SWAN offered them its identity card. Sadly, these touts have taken over SWAN in Lagos and the leaders whose hands are tied has decided to look the other way.

I don’t have anything against individuals and groups tilting their sympathy anywhere they want but dishing out lies against someone or group can be a disservice to the unsuspecting public and we saw that until the truce was called between the feuding individuals. I don’t know what will happen next with these hired social media touts of Dalung as their master had eaten his words and also went ahead to eat his vomit. This action speaks volume of a man without colour and character.

One prays the tenure of this inept regime quickly ends so that the likes of non-performers like Solomon Dalung would either retire to the farm or eat the ones they had falsely acquired in their unproductive years of blackmail by crying wolf where there is none in the sports sector. For Dalung to quickly withdraw his purported case against Amaju and his men gives him out as lily-livered. Again it gives him away as a man of falsehood. He enjoys all motion without movement.

It is the lot and burdens this deceitful government imposed on sports since it came on board. Dalung has been bad news to the system. He has been known to bring a bad copy to sports not minding its consequences. All the allegations he made when a certain television station interviewed him, where has that led him to than reducing him to this sorry level. Many have further seen him as one that can never be trusted by anybody. He is known also as one that likes biting the fingers that fed him. As Dalung hangs on as Sports Minister due to the kind of administration in power in the country, let’s discuss further on our social media handles. Keep shooting hard till next week!!
