CAF Champions League: Lobi Stars wary of wounded ASEC Mimosas

By Daily Sports on January 18, 2019

Nigeria’s Lobi Stars have admitted that they are wary of the threat posed by a wounded ASEC Mimosas ahead of the teams’ CAF Champions League clash this coming weekend.

Stars enjoyed a great start to the group stage campaign when they claimed a 2-1 home win over Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend, while the Ivorian giants suffered a 5-2 defeat away to Wydad Casablanca.

An ASEC side looking to bounce back at their home ground, the Houphouet Boigny Stadium, will be no easy opponents for Stars on Saturday afternoon.

“We know ASEC are a very good side and we can’t judge them with the loss against Wydad,” Oluwadamilare Ojo, who was picked as man-of-the match against Sundowns told, CAF’s official website.

“I felt great with my first CAF Champions League match for Lobi Stars because it wasn’t easy coming into a new team and adapting to the tactics of the coach.

“Though we respect ASEC because of their pedigree and being former winner of the CAF Champions League, we would ensure we return [from] Abidjan with a positive result.”

Stars coach Solomon Ogbeide added that his team remain the outsiders in the group, being the only one of the quartet not to have won the competition before.

“There are no small teams in the group and we are still the underdogs because the other three teams, namely ASEC, Wydad and Sundowns, are past winners of the CAF Champions League,” explained Ogbeide.

“We haven’t won anything yet but we can now build on the victory against Mamelodi Sundowns to focus on the next game against ASEC.

“We have a good spirit; and remains positive going for the next away game against ASEC and we are going to take the game to them in Abidjan.” (African Football)
