Victor Osimhen scored his seventh goal of the season in the Belgian First Division A as Sporting Charleroi defeated Cercle Brugge 3-1.
The Nigeria international who joined the Zebras on a season-long loan from Wolfsburg made another statement in his 12th league appearance at Stade du Pays de Charleroi on Saturday.
After Cristian Benavente’s opener in the 16th minute, Osimhen doubled his side’s lead with his goal in the 53rd minute. The effort made him the second African top scorer in the Belgian top-flight behind Tanzania’s Mbwana Samatta who has scored 10 league goals for Genk this term.
Marco Ilaimaharitra’s effort sealed Charleroi’s eighth win of the season as they climbed to sixth place – the Champions League playoff zone with 26 points from 17 games in the league table.
Osimhen was later replaced by Mali’s Adama Niane in the 79th minute and will hope to be in action when Felice Mazzu’s men host Genk in Wednesday’s Cup game. (Goal)
