Egyptian giants Al Ahly have sacked French coach Patrice Carteron just five months into his tenure and despite leading the side to the final of the CAF Champions League.
Ahly were defeated by Tunisian side Esperance in the continental decider despite holding a 3-1 lead from the home leg, and have subsequently had a number of other setbacks.
The side were ousted from the Arab Club Championship on Thursday when they were held to a 3-3 aggregate draw by United Arab Emirates side Al Wasl, while they also sit bottom of the Egyptian Premier League, albeit having played barely half of the number of games as most sides.Ahly announced their decision to relieve Carteron of his duties on Friday via their Twitter feed, saying he would be replaced on an interim basis by Mohamed Youssef, who acted as the Frenchman’s assistant but has also had a spell in charge of the team before.
Carteron, who won the CAF Champions League with TP Mazembe in 2015, had joined Ahly from Didier Drogba’s Phoenix Rising in the United Soccer League in the United States. (ESPN)
