Didier Drogba’s winner gives Phoenix first USL Western Conference title

By Daily Sports on November 5, 2018

Didier Drogba scored Phoenix Rising’s winning goal in their 2-1 victory over Orange County that saw them lift the United Soccer League Western Conference title on Sunday.

The African legend extended his goalscoring run in the playoffs by netting his third effort at the Champions Soccer Stadium in California.

Chris Cortez gave the Arizona outfit an early lead after breaking the deadlock 76 seconds into the encounter.

Drogba then double their lead, finishing off the rebound of his shot in the 73rd minute.

The Chelsea legend’s effort stood as the winning goal as Koji Hashimoto’s 82nd-minute goal only gave Orange County hopes of comeback.

Drogba, also an owner of the club, will hope to crown Rising’s 2018 season with the USL Cup when they take on Louisville City in the USL Cup final on Thursday. (Goal)
