Morocco stunned by lowly Comoros in AFCON Qualifier

By Daily Sports on October 17, 2018

Morocco ended a bruising international break with a 2-2 draw against tiny Comoros in Mitsamiouli as El Fardou Ben Nabouhane scored a 90th-minute equaliser to keep their Africa Cup of Nations hosts alive.

The draw leaves Morocco on seven points after four matches, and they must wait until next month’s qualifier against Cameroon to secure their spot at the 2019 finals.

The Atlas Lions needed a 94th-minute penalty to defeat the island nation – ranked 149th in the world – in Casablanca on Saturday, but the tables were turned in Tuesday’s rematch.

Ben Nabouhane, who opened the scoring for the Comoros as they held heavyweights Cameroon 1-1 at home last month, again got the ball rolling when he fired the hosts ahead in the ninth minute.

Morocco, lethargic before the break, improved in the second half and equalised through Khalid Boutaib in the 54th minute.

Nordin Amrabat put the North African giants ahead in the 62nd minute following a moment of madness from Comoran stopper Ali Ahamada, who passed the ball into his path.

Ben Nabouhane equalised at the death against the run of play, to take the Comoros up to two points and keep alive their faint qualification hopes. (KweseESPN)
