Mbappe has three-match suspension upheld by FFF

By Daily Sports on September 25, 2018

The three-match Ligue 1 suspension handed to Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe for his first-career red card has been upheld despite Nimes midfielder Teji Savanier’s appeal to the French Football Federation (FFF).

Mbappe, 19, was dismissed at the end of 4-2 win away at Nimes on Sept. 1 after shoving Savanier to the ground following a late tackle, and although he apologised to PSG’s travelling fans, he insisted he would do it again, which may have figured in the FFF’s thinking during the review.

As a result, Mbappe was hit with a three-game ban by the disciplinary committee of the French Professional Football League (LFP), while Savanier was handed a four-match suspension – stretched to five because of the existence of a one-game ban in suspended sentence.

An ESPN FC source confirmed that Savanier appealed to the FFF, who went above the LFP (currently revamping their disciplinary committee) and granted a re-examination last week.

Although a decision was initially expected last week and Mbappe put his case to the FFF last Friday, French football’s governing body finally communicated on the issue on Monday and confirmed that both players’ punishment remains the same

Straight cards guarantee at least a one-match suspension in France, so Mbappe missed PSG's 4-0 home win over Saint-Etienne and Savanier missed Nimes' draw in Bordeaux.
