The Kwese 2018 Basketball Premier League second round playoff for the Savannah Conference dunked off on Friday in Bauchi with eight team struggling to secure a place in the four slots for the Final 8 in Lagos.

Ajibarede Bello, the League Director, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi that the eight teams featuring in the competition were those that excelled in the earlier round of the tournament in May in the Savannah Conference.

Bello, also the Technical Commissioner of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), said that Gombe Bulls were leading in the league log with 12 points from six matches and closely followed by Kano Pillars with 11 points, while Niger Potters were third on 10 points.

Bauchi Nets, Defenders, AHIP, Plateau Peaks and the team standing Bye respectively, were the other teams to complete the arrangement in the Savannah conference.

“The 2018 tournament is made up of 16 teams, eight in the Savannah Conference and eight in the Atlantic Conference.

“The eight teams in the Savannah have played themselves and the current tournament is a playoff with the four best teams from each conference will qualify for the final.

“The eight remaining teams after the playoff will play against themselves and at the end, the final top three teams will advance to African Clubs Championships scheduled for November and December,” Bello said.

NAN reports that earlier in the day, Gombe Bulls defeated Defenders 84-59; Kano Pillars beat Ahip Giants 104-65, while Niger Potters lost narrowly by 63-64 to Bauchi Nets.

Plateau Peaks and BYE are to slug it out later. (NAN)
