Lionel Messi meets Real Madrid fan Rafael Nadal during Ibiza holiday

LIONEL MESSI and Rafael Nadal have met up in Ibiza as both sports stars enjoy some summer downtime.

Messi is yet to return to Barcelona training after his World Cup exploits with Argentina.

Rafael Nadal, meanwhile, is taking time out from the ATP tour after losing the semi-final of Wimbledon to Novak Djokovic.

Both superstars are expected to be back in action later this summer but for now the pair are on holiday.

And they appeared to bump into each other on a night out in Ibiza.

The pair were said to have been at an exclusive restaurant on the Mediterranean island.

Messi was with his wife Antonela Roccuzzo and their children.

Barcelona-based newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim Messi and Nadal met after dinner and posed for photographs.

Rafael Nadal is a notorious Real Madrid supporter but that didn’t seem to stop Messi from enjoying a chat with the 16-time Grand Slam winner.

Daniella Semaan, a friend of Antonela and wife to Cesc Fabregas, was also there, Mundo Deportivo claim.

Lionel Messi is not expected back at Barcelona for a few weeks, having played 62 games for club and country last season.

Nadal, meanwhile, won the French Open in June before immediately hitting the grass courts in an effort to clinch the Wimbledon crown.

He is due back on the hard courts in preparation for the US Open in September. (Daily Express)
