The Nigerian Basketball Federation on Thursday announced their final roster for the second-leg of Group B of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers.
Five players – including team captain Ike Diogu – who helped Nigeria win all their three games in the first-leg last February in Bamako return for the Lagos showdown.
From Friday, June 29 to Sunday, July 1, Nigeria will host Uganda, Rwanda, and Mali - at a renovated Indoor Sports of the National Stadium in Lagos – in attempt to secure a spot in the 12-team Second Round of the World Cup African Qualifiers.
Talking to the local media ahead of their clash against Uganda on Friday, Diogu said: “No pressure at all, we are just going out there to play the right way and hopefully, we can come out with 3 victories and the goal is to get one of these world cup tickets."
“I have never been to the world cup and it’s an exciting challenge which we have all accepted,” said the MVP of the FIBA AfroBasket 2017.
"We are looking forward to qualifying in front of our home crowd,” he added. (FIBA)
