Idowu says Super Eagles look set to reach second round by knocking out Argentina

By Daily Sports on June 26, 2018

Defender Brian Idowu said Monday Nigeria are striving to reach knockout stage and knock Argentina out of the tournament.

Nigeria are second in Group D after beating Iceland 2-0 in their second World Cup match and will next face Argentina on Tuesday.

"It's going to be a big game, very important game for both teams. So hopefully we are going to show good football for the world to see. Of course we are hoping to get the job done and qualify from the group," Idowu said.

He added that Nigeria had already played Argentina at the previous World Cups group, but the team is focused on the current tournament, and have learned from their mistakes and will try to do their best to win the game.

"I have never thought [that it might be Lionel Messi's last match] but as much as we footballers love watching him play it will be our main goal to make it his last World Cup game, because he is against us," Idowu said.

Nigeria beat Argentina 4-2 in a pre-World Cup friendly in November 2017, but lost 3-2 to the South American side at the previous World Cup in Brazil. (Four Four Two)
